PUFFER PARTY · GAME GUIDE
Play Puffer Party online with friends
Puffer Party turns a simple category question into a multiplayer hot-potato game. You might know a good answer, but can you type it before the puffer pops? Join a public table for a quick casual game, or create a private room and invite your friends. Everything runs in the browser, and you can keep playing new rounds without a daily play limit.
How to play Puffer Party
- Choose a guest name and a table. Pick a casual public table, or host a private game. Friends can join a private room using its four-letter code.
- Read the category. When the puffer reaches you, type a valid answer that has not already been used in the current category.
- Pass the puffer. A correct answer passes it to the next surviving player. Common and rare answers can both keep you in the game.
- Protect your hearts. If the timer expires while you hold the puffer, you lose a heart. With no hearts left, you spectate until the next game.
- Be the last one floating. The results show placement, answers, points and earned progress. Play again with the same group or share a result link.

Public tables, private rooms and practice
Quick casual multiplayer
Public matchmaking offers 1v1, three-player, four-to-six-player and eight-to-ten-player tables. Table size changes how often you hold the puffer and how quickly familiar answers disappear. A clearly labelled practice BOT can fill an empty casual seat after about four seconds; this is practice, not a hidden human opponent.
Private Puffer Party with friends
Private rooms support 2–16 seats. A private room is unlisted by default, so share its invitation directly with your friends. The host controls settings between games and can opt into practice BOTs. Do not share an invitation publicly if you want the room to stay within your group.
Rated play and repeatable rounds
Only qualifying games between human opponents can affect rating. If a quiet public queue fills with labelled BOTs, it runs as unrated practice and does not award Elo or rated wins. You can play another round after the results; there is no daily attempt cap, paid entry or required download. A server-maintained guest profile tracks this edition’s progress and qualifying rated results.
Puffer Party timers, hearts and answer points
The fuse is shared, not a fresh full timer on every answer
The puffer starts with a fuse of 10–30 seconds. Passing it keeps that fuse running, with a minimum turn allowance for the next holder. The default allowance is eight seconds. A category normally lasts 60 seconds and also changes when all of its answers have been used. A pop can keep the same category in play while its clock still has time.
Rarer answers help you stay afloat
Accepted answers earn points according to their assigned rarity in this edition’s question bank. Under the default settings, players start with two hearts, can hold up to five, and earn an extra heart for each 600-point milestone. Rarity is an authored game value; it is not a live survey or a measured probability of what other people know.
Room settings change the challenge
Before starting a private game, the host can choose 1–10 starting hearts, a heart cap up to ten, 50–5,000 points per bonus heart, a 3–15-second minimum turn, and a 30–120-second category timer. Starting hearts cannot exceed the cap. Check the room settings rather than assuming every invitation uses the defaults.
Invite friends and share a Puffer Party result
Use the room’s invite button to copy a link or open your device’s share sheet. Each friend should use their own guest profile, preferably on their own device. Opening the same guest in a second tab moves that guest’s connection; it does not create another player.
After a game, you can share its result link. Anyone with that link can see the result’s player names and scores, so use a nickname you are comfortable sharing. Private room and result pages are excluded from our sitemap and marked noindex. A share link is still viewable by the person receiving it.
Ready for a rematch? Stay in the room, ready up again and let the host start the next private game. Guests arriving during a round can spectate and join a later one. A host leaving the room passes hosting to a connected friend where available.
Practical tips for your next round
Keep one safe answer in reserve
A familiar answer that is still unused is better than losing a heart while chasing a rare one. Look at the used-answer list before committing a word you heard another player submit.
Think of a second answer while someone else is holding
Categories are shared across the table. Use other players’ turns to prepare alternatives, and expect your first choice to disappear before the puffer comes back. In a large room, an unusual but clearly valid answer can be particularly useful.
Use practice to learn the current question bank
This edition currently contains 30 categories and 736 accepted answers, with common spelling aliases. It will not accept every plausible answer in the world. Use “Missing answer?” to report a specific omission rather than repeatedly submitting the same rejected word. Reports help improve coverage; they do not immediately change an active round.
Puffer Party and games like Krillion
If you enjoy Krillion’s category guessing, Puffer Party adds a turn-by-turn multiplayer challenge: you are trying to pass the puffer and survive against the people at your table. The official Krillion website is a separate service. This independently operated edition uses its own backend, question bank, progression and rankings; it does not import your Krillion account or claim identical reward algorithms.
“Daily games” is a useful way to describe the short browser-game routine, but Puffer Party here is repeatable multiplayer rather than a new numbered daily puzzle. Choose it when you want to play several games with friends instead of waiting until tomorrow.
Puffer Party FAQ
What is Puffer Party?
Puffer Party is a free browser-based multiplayer category game. Give an unused answer to the current prompt to pass the puffer. Lose a heart if it pops while you are holding it. The last player with a heart wins.
Can I play Puffer Party with friends?
Yes. Create a private room, share its four-letter invitation code or link, and have your friends join on their own devices. The host can change the room settings before a game starts. Private rooms support 2 to 16 players.
Is Puffer Party a daily game or an unlimited game?
You can play repeated multiplayer rounds without a once-per-day puzzle limit. Daily Games describes the browser-game genre here; this edition does not publish a separate numbered daily puzzle.
Can I play when no friends are online?
Choose a casual public table. Clearly labelled practice BOTs can fill empty seats after a short wait. BOT games do not award Elo or rated wins. Private-room practice BOTs are optional.
How is Puffer Party related to Krillion?
This is an independently operated Puffer Party multiplayer edition at pufferparty.org, with its own server and question bank. Krillion is a related category-guessing game. This site is not the official Krillion service and does not share its accounts or rankings.
Does Puffer Party require a download or payment?
No download or payment is required to play this browser edition. A guest profile saves progress on this server. Keep your recovery key private: it gives access to that guest profile.
Can I reconnect after losing my connection?
Keep the same browser tab and guest profile. The game tries to reconnect and restore your seat while its reconnect lease is valid. Timers continue on the server, so a connection loss does not pause a round.
